Portland on a Wednsesday

This is Bug on our balcony, wearing the sweater that I knit for her. She discovered a cat that had a bed in a window nearby and enjoyed looking for it each day.

We went to Powell's City of Books, first. We may schedule an entire day there on our next trip...and bring an empty suitcase to bring books home in.

Bug's dad was heading to a guitar shop to show them some pedal designs, so Bug & I stopped at Blick's Art Supply before going to the guitar shop.

We spotted this cool robot made from everyday materials. 

 We had a bit of a hike ahead of us, so we stopped for some pizza. Bug LOVED the name of this place...Pizza Schmizza.

We came across the gate to Chinatown.

Our next stop: Voodoo Doughnut!

The bacon maple bar...not a big hit. 

The Marshall Matters, on the other hand, was devoured!

 
 Bug's dad had some more business to take care of. We left him there and headed to a couple of yarn shops. :)

Of course, silly faces must be made.  :P

 I forgot to post this shot from earlier in the week. Bug is standing on the roof of the hotel. We didn't spend much time there as we were out & about all day. By the time we got back each night, either it was too chilly or (more often) we were too tired.

OMSI!

 After breakfast (more waffles!) we got on the streetcar again. Just days before we got there, they had opened a new line which crossed the river and went down to our destination....OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry). Here's Bug, ready to go.

While waiting to change streetcars, we took some pics by this wall. We don't know what it used to be. Anyone? There was a sign on it that said "history", but no details. 

 

We made it to OMSI!

The woman in the physics lab commented on my cheese curds t-shirt...we found out that she grew up in a town near ours. We had a great chat and she was very helpful.
Bug had fun turning the crank on this  Van de Graff Generator...I think that her dad enjoyed it, too!

I don't remember what this was called, but it was pretty cool. Bug got each of the 2 arms moving, then watched the pen on the paper. She did it twice...

On our way to the submarine tour! We went into the USS Blueback. Bug LOVED it!

We had a great tour guide. 

 

He answered any and all questions that Bug had and was amused, not annoyed when half of them were "Are we underwater yet?"

They had a doorway like this inside the building, where we lined up for the tour. If you couldn't fit through it without help, you could not take the tour. Bug didn't have to duck...I only hit my head once.

They had some really cool skeletons and rocks inside the building. 

 

On our walk from the streetcar stop to the hotel, Bug found some tall, soft plants. 

We saw the front-end of a vehicle in another building, too, but only got a photo of this one. 

We then visited our new friends who made pizza for us. YUMMY!

Then Bug's dad had some business to take care of...

Monday in Portland

 Our first morning in Portland. We all slept well, because of these:

 When we're in Portland again, we will most definitely be staying at Northrup Station again.

 First stop: the lobby for waffles. Bug did this every day. We made sure she had some juice or fruit, as well...sometimes a hard-boiled egg.

 Next was a short walk to the corner to wait for the streetcar. Our hotel supplied us with free daily passes. We used them most days that we were there.

 We rode the streetcar through downtown, down to the south waterfront, then back up to downtown where we got out. Bug like the quad-bubblers.

I forgot to take pics of all of the food carts....there were a LOT! Bug & her dad ordered from this one: 

I got fish & chips from the Frying Scotsman. Bug liked his sign because "he's got a Gryffindor lion on his sign!!!" 

The Scotsman directed us to a park with tables & chairs about 2 blocks away. We ate, then Bug fed some pigeons. I walked to a nearby yarn shop while they headed to Finnegan's Toys where I met back up with them. 

Somewhere along the way, we found this cat...

Inside Pioneer Place Mall, they had this cool interactive floor thing. Bug & her dad spent probably 10 minutes playing with it. 

I wanted to get video of this guy, but my batteries died. He was done dancing by the time I got them changed, but did post for a photo. 

Back near our hotel, we found this gift shop - Stella's on 21st.  :D

We ordered a pizza and settled in to watch the Packers play the Seahawks....we were NOT amused....but the pizza was good.
